Abscesses
Can be treated with hot compresses to reduce pain and inflammation. The following essential oils can be used: Chamomile, Lavender and Tea-tree.
Acne
Essential oils can be used to treat the skin externally to help reduce the amount of sebum produced in the skin.
Can be treated with massages to stimulate the circulation and to help the body to eliminate toxins. The following
essential oils can be used: Lavender and Tea-tree
which are both bactericidal. Bergamot has astringent and anti-depressant
properties. Geranium can be used to balance the secretion of sebum.
Ageing Skin
Essential oils can help to reduce signs of ageing. Essential oils can be used in creams and massages. It can help
to minimise most ageing problems. The following essential oils can be used: Neroli
and Lavender are the most used oils and subtle for older skins. For oily
skin problem, massage the skin with Geranium, Jasmine,
Neroli or Rose oils. It will help to
restore the natural balance of the skin.
Airsprays
One of the simplest ways to introduce essential oils into the air is to mix them in water and use them as a spray.
Essential oils are better dissolved in alcohol. The mixture will work well only for a short period of time. Remember
to shake well the bottle before sparying. The following essential oils can be used: Tea-tree,
Bergamot, Eucalyptus and Lavender. Use 20 drops for every 200ml of water.
Allergy
The following essential oils can be used: Chamomile, Lavender
and Melissa are the most common used essential oils for general allergies.
It can be used in baths, inhalations, compresses or in skin lotions. For stress the most often essential oils used
are: Bergamot, Neroli, Rose,
Jasmine, Sandalwood and Ylang Ylang.
Alopecia
It is another term used for baldness, which is permanent and progressive. Massage the scalp to increase the circulation
and general health of the skin. The following essential oils can be used: Rosemary,
Lavender and Thyme. It is proved
to stimulate the hair growth.
Anorexia
Massages is the ideal method in this case. The following essential oils can be used: Lavender,
Chamomile, Neroli, Ylang
Ylang and Clary Sage. These oils has a calming and
soothing antidepressant properties. Also Bergamot oil can be used to help
to regulate appetite.
Anxiety
Any of the sedative essential oils can help in these case and there are many to choose from. The following essential
oils can be used: Bergamot, Chamomile,
Cedarwood, Clary Sage, Cypress,
Geranium, Jasmine, Juniper,
Lavender, Marjoram, Melissa,
Neroli, Rose and Ylang
Ylang. Very helpfull if used in massages or baths.
Appetite
If the appetite is descreasing, some essential oils can be used to stimulate the problem. The following essential
oils can be used: Chamomile, Cardamom
and Bergamot. It can be used in massages and baths.
Arthritis
Arthritis can cause various problems such as; uric acid is deposited as crystals in joint spaces, it can cause
inflammation, pain, loss of mobility and more. Some essential oils can be used to combat these problems. The following
essential oils can be used: Cypress, Juniper
and Lemon are some of the detoxifying oils. It can be used in baths and massages
to help the body to get rid of poisons.
Asthma
In case of stress and anxiety, the following essential oils can be used: Bergamot,
Chamomile, Lavender, Neroli
and Rose. All these oils are antidepressant oils. Bergamot and Lavender oils
are also good for chest problems.
Backache
Massage is a very effective form to treat backache. The following essential oils can be used: Lavender,
Marjoram and Rosemary can be
used to reduce pain, tension and treat muscular problems. Also Black Pepper
or Ginger oils can be used where there is acute pain.
Bleeding
Several essential oils can be used to stop bleeding. The following essential oils can be used: Lemon,
Geranium and Rose. Diluted Lemon oil can be used on all cuts and minor injuries. Do not use Lemon oil without
diluting it, it can burn the skin if not carefull.
Blisters
Add a few drops of Lavender oil in a gaze and cover the blister with it.
Do not cover the blister with a plaster, as it not allows the skin to breath properly.
Bronchitis
The following essential oils can be used when in the first stages. When the cough is dry and painful, do inhalations
with Bergamot, Eucalyptus,
Lavender or Sandalwood oils.
These oils can give a great relief. The following essential oils can be used in the latter stages. To clear the
lungs and to prevent complications, do inhalations with Basil, Benzoin,
Bergamot, Marjoram, Sandalwood
or Thyme.
Bruises
Some essential oils can be used to reduce bruises. The following oils can be used: Fennel,
Hyssop or Lavender. It can be used
as a cold compresse. Also Lavender can be used to reduce pain. In case of severe bruising, use Black
Pepper, Chamomile and Lavender.
Burns
One of the most known and most effective for burn treatments is the Lavender
oil. Lavender is antiseptic and also has analgestic properties. Also the Tea-tree
oil is very effective. For larger burns, Lavender oil should be poured neat onto a sterile gauze and applied direclty
to the burn.
Catarrh
The following essential oils can be used for immediate relief of congestions: Lavender,
Eucalyptus, Peppermint, Rosemary, Thyme and Tea-tree
oils can help to combat infection. Inhalation is the best method to get rid off catarrhs.
Chickenpox
If a child has chickenpox and it is old enough (4 years old) to be treated with essential oils, use the following
oils in baths: use 2 drops of Tea-tree oil with 2 drops of Chamomile
oil to reduce itching or try 1 drop of each of these oils; Bergamot, Eucalyptus, Chamomile and Lavender. For adults, use the following oils in baths: use 3 drops of Ti-tree
oil with 1 drop of each of these oils; Bergamot, Chamomile and Lavender. Bath every few hours for better results,
unless the patient is feeling too weak.
Circulation
To stimulate locally circulation, do massages with Black Pepper, Juniper,
Marjoram and Rosemary oils. To
help with redness and sweeling, do massages with Chamomile and Cypress oils.
Colds
To fight off infection, the following essential oils are recommended: Lavender,
Eucalyptus, Tea-tree, Peppermint,
Rosemary and Pine. It can be used
as inhalant for sore throats. Also Marjoram oil can be used in baths to
help to reduce shivers and aching. It also helps to get rif off headaches that are associated with cold.
Constipation
Several essential oils can be used to help with constipation problems such as Marjoram
and Rosemary. These oils can be used together. Do massages in the adbomen
in a clockwise direction.
Coughs
To fight off bacterial infection, the best bactericidal oil is the Thyme.
Other essential oils can be used to combat coughs such as Benzoin, Eucalyptus, Lavender, Marjoram
and Sandalwood. Massage the throat and chest with any of these oils.
It can also be used in oil burners especially at night.
Cracked skin
Can be treated with Benzoin, Lavender
and Myrrh oils. If treating cracks where the skin is damp, Myrrh is the best
choice and also can be combined with Benzoin and Lavender for best results.
Cystitis
The following essential oils can be used: Bergamot, Chamomile,
Eucalyptus, Garlic, Lavender,
Sandalwood and Tea-tree. The Bergamot
and Ti-tree oil can be used in the bath. Chamomile can be added to external washes to ease pain and irritation.
Also Bergamot and Lavender or Chamomile can be used in massages.
Depression
If the depression is taking the form of restlessness, irritability and inability to sleep, the following oils can
help: Chamomile, Clary
Sage, Lavender, Sandalwood
and Ylang Ylang. To help lift the mood use Geranium,
Melissa and Rose. It can be used in
massages or as inhalation.
Diarrhoea
The following essential oils can be used: Chamomile, Cypress,
Eucalyptus, Lavender, Neroli and Peppermint. These are the
most effective antispasmodics. To relive pain in diarrhoea, the following essential oils can be used: Benzoin,
Ginger or Black Pepper. Massage gently
over the abdomen, it can help to ease griping pains.
Ear infection
Do hot compresses with Chamomile oil to soothe pain and to reduce
further infection. Also try do gentle massages around the ear.
Eczema
Oils such as Chamomile, Lavender,
Melissa and Neroli can be used in
massages and in baths. All these oils helps to reduce the stress level.
Fainting
Several essential oils can be helpful to fainting problems or in state of shock. The following essential oils can
be used: Peppermint and Neroli.
Also Lavender and Rosemary are
very useful. Simply hold the opened bottle under the patient's nose or put a drop of one of these oils on a hankie
or tissue for them to inhale.
Fatigue
Any of these oils can be used to help the body to recover from fatigue. The following oils can be used: Basil,
Geranium, Nutmeg, Rosemary,
Thyme, Marjoram or Pine.
Also you can use a blend of any three of these oils. These oils will help to restore tone to the body, clear the
mind and give more energy. It can be used in baths or in massages.
Fever
The following essential oils can be used: Basil, Chamomile,
Cypress, Juniper, Lavender,
Peppermint, Rosemary and Tea-tree will help the body to sweat if needed. To cool down the body temperature,
use Bergamot, Eucalyptus, Lavender and Peppermint oils. These
oils should be used in a fairly concentration. Add a few drops in a bowl of cool water, not cold.
Frigidity
Luxurious oils can be used such as Rose and Jasmine,
which increases confidence. Neroli oil can help when there is anxiety present
and Ylang Ylang can help to relax. It can be used in baths, creams, lotions
and in massages.
Gallstones
Lavender and Rosemary are two
oils that have been found the most helpfull. Rosemary is also valuable for inflammation of the gall baldder. Do
massages over the area of the gall bladder.
Gingivitis
The following essential oils can be used to help to combat the bacteria. These are: Tea-tree
and Thyme oil. Fennel and Mandarin
can help to strength the gums and Myrrh have healing and tonic properties.
Grief
The best essential oil to use is Rose. Also it can be combined with Benzoin oil to give a sensation of warmth. Also Bergamot,
Chamomile for its soothing properties, Lavender
or Melissa to give you an uplifiting feeling. Do massages using any of
these oils.
Haemorrhoids
The following essential oils can be used: Cypress or Juniper
can be used in local applications and baths in a regular basis. These oils will help to improve the circulation
generally.
Hay Fever
Any of the oils that relieve symptoms will work. The following essential oils can be used: Lavender
and Eucalyptus relieves the symptoms of cold, it helps to reduce sneezing
and runny nose. Do inhalations using any of these oils. Also try Chamomile
and Melissa to help with the allergy.
Headaches
The most effective essential oils are: Lavender and Peppermint.
It can be used together or separate. Another oil that is very helpful is Rosemary,
it helps to clear the head and to relieve pain. Aplly Lavender and Peppermint neat on the temples or make cold
compresses and apply to the temples, forehead or back of the neck.
Heart
A few essential oils helps when the heart is double pumping. These are: Garlic,
Lavender, Marjoram, Peppermint,
Rose and Rosemary. These oils are
described as cardiac tonics, it has a strengthening effect on the actual muscle of the heart. Other oils like Lavender, Melissa, Neroli
and Ylang Ylang are recommended for palpitations. All these methods should
be approached with great caution. All the oils mentioned can be used in baths and massages.
Herpes
Bergamot, Eucalyptus and Tea-tree essential oils are very effective in treating herpes blisters. Particularly
if applied immediately at the first sign of an eruption. Blend 6 drops of one oil in 5mls of alcohol. Ti-tree oil
can also be used neat. Frequent dabbing will stop blisters developing.
Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)
The most important essential oils are: Lavender, Marjoram
and Ylang Ylang. Ylang Ylang helps when there is shortness of breath or over-rapid
breathing or heartbeat, which is often accompany high blood pressure. All these oils can be used in massages and
in baths.
Hypotension (Low Blood Pressure)
One of the best oil is Bergamot. It helps to bring the high pressure into
normal level. It has tonic and stimulating properties.Other stimulant oils are: Black
Pepper and Peppermint, especially if used in cases of frequent
fainting, but be carefull not to exceed.
Hysteria
Any of these oils can be used: Chamomile, Clary
Sage, Lavender, Marjoram,
Melissa, Neroli, Peppermint,
Rosemary and Ylang Ylang. It helps
to create a calmer emotional state. These oils can be used in massages, baths, room sprays or burn a few drops
of any of these oils in a room as a perfume.
Impotence
The best oils that can be used are: Sandalwood, which is a powerfull
aphrodisiac. Jasmine to help to restore or to increase confidence. Neroli
for anxiety problems and Clary Sage for deeping relaxation. Do not
use Clary Sage if any alcohol has been taken. Do baths before going to bed.
Indigestion
Chamomile, Lavender and Marjoram are the best oils to treat indigestion. It has a soothing and conforting
effect. Do gentle massages over the stomach.
Insomnia
Lavender, Chamomile and Neroli are the best essential oils to treat insomnia. Also it is the most effective
and it has a profound effect on the mind and emotions. It helps to calm, sooth, balance and relieves anxiety. It
can be used in baths, or even a few drops of Lavender oil on the pillow will help.
Itching
Chamomile helps to relieve itching. Lavender
and Melissa are good alternatives too. Do baths depending on the itching
location and if a large area of the body is affected. It also can be used in creams and lotions. If it is only
a small area affected, use one or two drops of any of these oils rubbed direclty onto the skin.
Laryngitis
The best oil to be used is Benzoin. Lavender
and Sandalwood can also be used as an alternative. Do steam inhalations,
as the vapour eases the breathing and soothes inflammation.
Menopause
The following essential oils can be used to help in the menopause and to minimise physical problems. Geraminum
oil helps to balance the hormones, Rose oil helps to tone and cleanse the
uterus, helping to regulate the menstrual cycle.Chamomile oil gently
calm, sooth and works as an antidepressant. There are many other oils that can be used as antidepressants such
as Bergamot, Clary Sage, Jasmine,
Lavender, Neroli, Sandalwood
and Ylang Ylang. Use in baths and massages.
Mental Fatigue
Basil, Peppermint and Rosemary
are the most effective essential oils to help with this problem. It can be used in baths by adding 6 drops of any
of these oils mentiones above.
Migraine
Do cold compresses with Lavender and Peppermint
oils. Place the compresses accross the forehead and temples or do very gentle massages at the temples with Lavender
oil.
Moods
The following essential oils can be used to uplift and as an antidepressant. These are: Bergamot,
Grapefruit and Orange. It has
a calming, stimulating and balancing effect. It can be used in massages, baths and perfumes.
Mouth Ulcers
Myrrh is well known for its healing properties. It has fungicidal properties.
Apply the oil in a cotton-bud and apply directly onto the ulcer. It also can be used as a mouthwash by diluting
it in half a tumbler of warm water.
Muscles
For a relaxing effect and to relieve such problems as indigestion, colic and mnestrual cramps use Bergamot,
Black Pepper, Chamomile, Clary Sage, Cypress, Fennel,
Juniper, Lavender, Marjoram,
Melissa, Neroli and Peppermint.
Do hot compresses over the affected area.
Pneumonia
The most effective form of treatment is definately the steam inhalation. Medical treatment is absolutely necessary
in this case reinforced with carefull use of aromatherapy oils. Eucalyptus,
Lavender, Pine and Tea-tree
is very effective.
Pre Menstrual Tension
Do lymphatic drainage massages using Geranium and Rosemary
oils to prevent fluid retension. To reduce depression and irritability, use Bergamot,
Chamomile and Rose oils. The best
form of treatment is through massages or baths.
Rheumatism
The most effective oils are: Chamomile, Lavender,
Marjoram and Rosemary. Do hot
compresses to give a considerable relief. Do massages as often as possible to stimulate local circulation and to
remove toxins. It can also be used in baths to help with the elimination of the toxins.
Shock
Arnica is a well known essential oil for its homeopathically use. It can
be used in the same way as florals, by diluting a few drops in a glass of water and drinking it. Do not take florals
and aromatheraphy oils at the same time, as the oil can be a powerfull antidote to homoeopathic remedies.
Sinusitis
Do frequent steam inhalations. The following essential oils can be used: Eucalyptus,
Lavender, Peppermint, Pine, Thyme and Tea-tree
are very effective oils. When there is much pan, use Eucalyptus, Peppermint and Pine to relieve pain.
Sore Throat
Do steam inhalations using Benzoin, Lavender
or Thyme to help to relieve descomfort.
Spasm
Do gentle massages to relieve spasm using Bergamot, Chamomile,
Clary Sage, Fennel, Juniper,
Lavender, Marjoram and Rosemary. It can also be used as hot compresses over the organ.
Sprains
Use Lavender or Chamomile oils.
Do cold compresses. Never massage a sprain.
Stimulants
The following essential oils can be used: Basil, Black
Pepper, Eucalyptus, Peppermint
and Rosemary.
Stress
Use Bergamot, Chamomile, Clary Sage, Jasmine, Lavender,
Marjoram, Neroli, Rose,
Rosewood and Vetivert. All these
oils mentioned helps to cope with stress. To strength the adrenals, use Geranium
and Rosemary, these are stimulant oils. Use as aromatic baths.
Sunburn
Use Chamomile oil to soothe and cool down the burn. Also Lavender
oil can be used, especially where there are blisters. Apply Lavender oil neat to the blisters.
Thrush
Do baths, massages or local application using Tea-tree, Lavender
or Myrrh. These essential oils has antifungal properties.
Toothache
Clove is the best essential oil to treat toothache. It acts as a local anaesthectic
and a powerfull disinfectant which helps to prevent infection. Put a drop of Clove oil into a cotton-bud and apply
straight to the tooth.
Verrucas
Use Rosemary, Geranium, Grapefruit or Juniper when there is
long strokes up the leg. The most effective treatment is to treat the verrucas locally.
Vomitting
Do gentle massages over the stomach area and do warm compresses. The following essential oils can be used: Chamomile, Lavender, Lemon
and Peppermint.
